Minding the Gap
|Sun 22 July||03.40PM THE INDIS|
First-time filmmaker Bing Liu's documentary Minding the Gap is a coming-of-age saga of three skateboarding friends in their Rust Belt hometown hit hard by decades of recession. While navigating a complex relationship between his camera and his friends, Bing explores the gap between fathers and sons, between discipline and domestic abuse, and ultimately that precarious chasm between childhood and becoming an adult. Minding the Gap is a stunning documentary that won the Special Jury Prize for Breakthrough Filmmaking at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, the Audience Award at Sheffield Doc Fest and has garnered a further 28 award recognitions this year.
Part of The INDIs (Independent Directions Film Festival) - a weekend of film screenings, industry sessions and panel discussions, curated for an audience of 16-30 year olds from the 20th - 23rd July. For more details, visit their website.
