Synopsis:

A Scalarama screening of this rare coming-of-age classic!

Winner of the Louis Delluc Prize for France’s best film of the year in 1977, Peppermint Soda follows the lives of two teenage sisters: introverted Anne (Eléonore Klarwein) on the cusp of adolescence; and outgoing Frédérique (Odile Michel), making her first forays into love and politics. The debut feature from director Diane Kurys, Peppermint Soda gives an intricately detailed view of adolescence in 1960s France; an ode to teenage summers, first kisses and first losses.

Peppermint Soda is part of a She's A Rebel mini-season for Scalarama, looking at the cinematic representation of female adolescence and girls who refuse to conform.
