Synopsis:

It's Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra, embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity.

TANGERINE
Critical reaction:
  • IT JUMPS OFF THE SCREEN AND WOWS YOU LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS. A groundbreaking film that leaves you in stitches while quietly breaking your heart. A VISUALLY INNOVATIVE KNOCKOUT THAT GRABS YOU FROM THE FIRST FRAME.

    Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

  • Fired by zesty performances that crackle and burn with energy, Tangerine is a bittersweet affair underpinned by a winning sense of empathy and affection.

    Mark Kermode, THE GUARDIAN

What do we think:

With director Sean Baker's new film, The Florida Project, proving a favourite among audiences at the moment it's a pleasure to revisit one of his earlier films which coincidentally is an absolute favourite of the team here at the Picture House. If you haven't already seen it Tangerine is funny, charming, insightful and at times challenging. At the time of it's initial release in 2015 Tangerine caught the imagination of the press due to the tag of being the first feature shot exclusively on an iphone. It caught audiences hearts because it is, quite simply, wonderful.
