Synopsis:

Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

Director Christopher Nolan is one of only a handful of filmmakers working today who could command the budget required to realise a film like Dunkirk. And, in all that grandeur, it’s a pleasure to see the detail retained as he strives to articulate for a contemporary audience the humanity and the horrors of this infamous chapter in British military history.

Thanks to the wishes of Christopher Nolan, all our standard performances of Dunkirk will be presented from a brand new 35mm film print.

Critical reaction:
  • This is a powerful, superbly crafted film with a story to tell, avoiding war porn in favour of something desolate and apocalyptic... Nolan’s best film so far. ★★★★★

    Peter Bradshaw, THE GUARDIAN

  • Heart-hammering and heroically British, this is Christopher Nolan at the peak of his powers ★★★★★

    Robbie Collin, THE TELEGRAPH
