Film description

The Quiet Girl is the heartbreaking debut feature from director Colm Bairéad. Set in the stunning landscapes of rural Ireland in the early eighties, a quiet, neglected girl is sent away from her overcrowded, dysfunctional family to live with foster parents for the summer. She blossoms in their care, but in a house where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers some painful truths.

Following it's world premiere at the Berlinale in February, where it was awarded the grand prize in the Generation Kplus strand, the film has since screened at Dublin and Glasgow film festivals to glowing reviews, and rightly so. An adaptation of Claire Keegan’s acclaimed short story Foster, Bairéad’s Irish-language film is understated in both its visual style and the subtlety of narrative, yet carefully constructed and considered in it's delicate storytelling.
