A Northern Soul
Following 2015’s Doc/Fest Grand Jury Winner A Syrian Love Story, Sean McAllister returns to his Yorkshire hometown of Hull as creative director of the opening ceremony of the City of Culture celebrations.
Living back with his 90 year-old parents, McAllister reflects on the changes to a city hit by cuts in public spending and divided by Brexit and where more than 1 in 3 children are living in poverty. Drawn to the fringes of town, McAllister met and started filming with Steve Arnott, a struggling warehouse worker who harbours his own creative dream.
Showing in association with Doc/Fest, as part of their Doc/Circuit Yorkshire tour.
Following the film, Steve Arnott and director Sean McAllister will join us for a live Q&A, chaired by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
The BBFC awarded this film a 15 certificate due to strong language. While we respect the decisions and work of the BBFC, locally we have had this re-assessed by Leeds City Council licensing because we support the director's belief that this is an important film for younger audiences to have the opportunity to see. As a result this film has a 12A certificate here in Leeds.
