Blind Ambition + Q&A
Film description
Having escaped Zimbabwe to start a new life in South Africa, Joseph, Marlvin, Pardon and Tinashe faced prejudice and economic hardship as they worked to support their families. But after finding jobs as waiters, they each discovered a taste for, and understanding of, the complex subtleties of wine.
The group commit themselves to ascending to the rank of sommelier and, encouraged by their manager, decide to be the first Zimbabwean team to enter the of World Wine Tasting Championship in France.
This wonderful documentary rightly doesn't gloss over the team's roots in a violent, repressive Zimbabwe, and depsite the continued dangers and precariousness they face in their adopted country, the film captures their fraternity, patriotism and shared ambition.
Each member's personailty and charisma shine through the pressures and predjudices they face representing their country for the first time on the world stage. It's an uplifting, funny and joyful film about finding ways to improve your life and others, which we should all raise a glass to.
This screening will be followed by a 20min pre-recorded Q&A with the Director.
