Colette

UK, 2018, 111mins, Cert.15

Film description

Colette (1873 – 1954) was a mime artist, actress, journalist and novelist, nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948.

Wash Westmoreland’s (Still Alice) charming biopic charts her early life, moving from the French countryside to the dizzying heights of Paris when she fell in love with a successful writer. Her first novel, Claudine à l'école, was a cultural sensation. However, Claudine à l'école was published under Colette’s husband’s name, marking the beginning of a long battle for recognition and independence.

The film's director, Yorkshire-born Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice), will be joining us on stage for a special live Q&A following our screening of Colette on Saturday 12th January at 6pm.
