Film description

Starring Joaquin Phoenix alongside Oscar-winner Robert De Niro, Joker centers around DC Comics’ iconic arch nemesis, a man misunderstood and disregarded by society.

Under the crumbling morals of 1980s Gotham, Arthur Fleck (Joaquim Phoenix) simply wants to make people laugh. His stand-up career fails to take off however and in its place comes delusion and chaos - exploring what caused this infamous DC villain to be.

The recent surprise winner of Venice Film Festival’s top prize, the Golden Lion, Joker boasts a remarkable lead performance from Phoenix in the title role and is being tipped as an early contender for next year’s Oscars, where it could become the first superhero film to win the top-prize.
