The Cave (Syria)

Syria, Denmark, Germany, 2019, 95mins, Cert.TBC

Film description

For civilians in war-torn Syria constantly besieged by aerial bombardment, hope and respite lie underground inside the subterranean hospital known as the Cave. Here paediatrician and managing physician Dr. Amani Ballour and her colleagues have claimed their right to work as equals alongside their male counterparts, working in a way that would be unthinkable in the oppressively patriarchal culture that exists above. Following the women as they grapple with daily aerial attacks, chronic supply shortages and the ever-present threat of chemical warfare, The Cave paints a stirring portrait of courage, resilience and female solidarity.
