The Wedding Banquet
In early nineties New York, Wai-tung is about to marry his fiancée, Wei-wei, and welcome his parents over from Taiwan to meet her. Howeve,r the wedding is only one of convenience, as a cover for his real relationship with partner Simon, and a scheme to get Wei-wei her green-card. As the pair struggle to maintain expectations of tradition and social convention, Wai-tung’s plan begins to spiral out of control as the sumptuous festivities commence.
A glorious comedy of manners from Taiwanese director Ang Lee, in only his second feature, The Wedding Banquet is also a poignant drama of families and communities coming together. It’s a feast of a film, and a perfect invitation to bring audiences back to the big screen in a celebration of cinema.
