The Wicker Man
A true classic of British horror.
After receiving a personal letter informing him of the disappearance of a young girl, Police Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) flies to a remote Scottish island to investigate, only to find a strange, isolated community who uniformly insist that the girl ever existed. The Wicker Man is a chilling depiction of the outsider thrust into a community whose rules he does not know, with Woodward giving a powerful and devastating performance, as the Sergeant comes to realise that his authority means precisely nothing in this land of jolly pagans.
The Wicker Man was a labour of love for actor Christopher Lee. He was involved with its development almost from inception, working closely with screenwriter, Anthony Shaffer and producer, Peter Snell, and even appeared in the film without taking a fee. Lee was immensely proud of the The Wicker Man and of his performance in it, often insisting that his portrayal of Lord Summerisle was the greatest role of his career.
