Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell
A moving portrait of composer, cellist, and vocalist Arthur Russell (1951-1992). Shy, acne-scarred, from the prairie and homosexual, Russell’s understated influence on modern music is monolithic. With interviews from friends and colleagues, including Allen Ginsberg and Philip Glass, and his long-time partner Tom Lee, Wild Combination sees the trajectory of his endlessly inventive life in music.
Accompanying Matt Wolf's feature, we’ll also be screening the director’s 2017 short Bayard & Me – an intimate love story about intergenerational gay adoption in the 1980s, and its connection to the civil rights movement.
Before and after the screening, Brudenell Groove residents will be bringing the sounds of Arthur Russell to the community room, so get down early and stay for a drink after!
