Arrival time

Late entry and readmittance to the cinema is at the discretion of staff where possible. If admitted, please find your seat(s) as quietly as you are able.

Our feature films/events generally start approximately 15–20 minutes after the advertised start time.

Some screenings (e.g. with guests or accompanying speakers) may not include adverts or trailers and we are not usually able to identify these in the film listings.

Audiences should always arrive in good time before the advertised start time to ensure they don't miss the screening.

Certification

Admission rules

We are required by law to refuse the sale or admission to a screening to anyone who, in our opinion, is below or appears to be below the minimum age required by the relevant classification of the British Board of Film Classification, or equivalent classification.

For more information about certification, including full BBFC guidelines, please visit bbfc.co.uk.

You may be asked for appropriate photographic proof of age ID (e.g. passport, driving license, PASS card) to enter a screening or event.

If you are unable to prove your age, you will not be able to watch the film.

We reserve the right to ask for such proof at any time you when are on the premises.

Age guidance

  • Anyone can be admitted to films classified as U or PG.
  • Children under 12 can be admitted to films classified as 12A but only if accompanied by an adult (i.e. someone over the age of 18). The BBFC advises these titles are most suitable for people aged 8 and above.
  • Nobody under the age of 15 can be admitted to films classified as 15.
  • Nobody under the age of 18 can be admitted to films classified as 18.
  • Bring Your Own Baby screenings are specifically for parents, grandparents or guardians with babes in arms and may include films rated 15 or 18.
  • For U, PG and 12A certificate films not geared towards young audiences and families, babies and young children are able to attend but may be asked to step out of the auditorium should they cause disturbance to other customers.
  • For screenings that are family friendly, relaxed, parent/carer and baby friendly, or similarly identified, children of all ages are welcome and some disturbance or noise can be expected and is acceptable.

Please be mindful of the fact that, even if the BBFC age certificate (or equivalent) is appropriate, not all of these screenings are aimed at children.

Refunds for tickets bought before certification

In the instance where you happen to buy a ticket before we know a film's classification and you are not old enough to be admitted to the screening, we will issue you with a full refund.

Memberships

Membership overview

We offer a membership scheme for the Hyde Park Picture House with generous discounts and benefits. Please find our full membership details here.

To become a member, you must have an account set up with us. This can be set up online, or via our box office.

You will need to provide an email address to take advantage of some of the benefits (e.g. the monthly newsletter).

Memberships are valid for one year from activation.

Auto renewal

Memberships are set to automatically renew against your nominated credit/debit card.

Automatic renewal can be turned off when you purchase your membership, at any time in your online account, or by contacting our box office.

You can add or change your nominated credit card used for renewal at any time in your online account.

If you have automatic membership renewal activated, you will receive a renewal reminder 30 days before your membership expires. Renewal payment will be made automatically, 7 days before your renewal date.

Free tickets

Free tickets can only be used when purchasing tickets using that member's account. They can be used by another customer in person but cannot be 'gifted' onto their account.

Free tickets can be used when booking in person or online or on the phone. They will always be used first when purchasing tickets until you've used up your free ticket allocation.

Free tickets can only be used in the year of the membership they apply to.

Free tickets cannot be redeemed against some third party events hosted at the cinema including any Leeds Film screenings. These will be clearly marked in our listings, or you can speak to a member of staff to understand if exceptions apply for specific events.

Ticket discounts

35mm membership ticket discount only applies once per film. 70mm membership ticket discount applies twice per film. After this, the full or concession price will apply (depending on which applies to you).

Membership ticket discount applies to both full price and concession tickets. You may be required to show proof of your concession on entry.

The 15-25 membership ticket price is available for any standard priced screenings. There will be some third party events hosted at the cinema including any Leeds Film screenings where this price will not be available. These will be clearly marked in our listings, or you can speak to a member of staff to understand if exceptions apply for specific events.

15-25 membership ticket discount only applies twice per film. After this, the full or concession price will apply (depending on which applies to you).

Other memberships

Our cinema memberships only apply on screenings and events at the Hyde Park Picture House. Our sister venues, Leeds Grand Theatre and City Varieties Music Hall, operate an independent membership scheme.

It is possible to hold more than one type of membership at a time (e.g. a 15-25 membership and 35mm membership). In this case you will be offered whichever discounted ticket price is the lowest - you would not receive both discounts combined.

Refunds

We can only offer refunds up to 48 hours before the screening. Refunds will only be made in the form of credit on the customer’s account.

If a screening is cancelled by us, or rescheduled to an alternative date that you can’t attend,  we will make every effort to accommodate you at another screening, offer credit to your account, or offer a full refund.

If you test positive for Covid please do not attend your booked screening and contact our box office to arrange a refund.

Anyone not wishing to receive a refund has the option to donate the cost of their ticket(s) to support the charitable work of the cinema. Please email or phone our box office on info@hpph.co.uk, 0113 275 2045, or let us know in person..

For card transactions, refunds can only be made to the card used at the point of booking.

It is your responsibility to check ticket(s); we are under no obligation to rectify any mistakes made after purchasing.

At the venue

Behaviour

Customers shall not exhibit behaviour that is considered antisocial or disruptive by cinema staff, including both physical and verbal abuse at any point on site. Such behaviour may result in immediate removal from the premises without any entitlement to a refund.

We reserve the right to remove a group of guests should the behaviour of one or more of their members be deemed to be acting antisocially. In the event of removal from the screen, the customer(s) may be banned from entering the premises in the future and action may result in the police being contacted.

Please note, we do not consider disruptive behaviour to include anyone who experiences involuntary tics, utterances, compulsions or equivalent noises.

Refreshments

We request that you only consume food and drinks bought from the cinema. We work hard with our local, independent suppliers to create a local economy that benefits our charity and all members of our community.

It is strictly prohibited to bring your own alcohol or hot food into the premises as this is in breach of our licence.

The management reserves the right to confiscate hot food and alcohol which is brought onto the premises, in which case these items will be returned to you at the end of the screening.

You must observe the licensing regulations at the cinema concerning the sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks.

We operate a Check 25 policy and you will be challenged to provide a valid photographic ID card to confirm your age.

Photography and filming

Cameras or recording equipment are not allowed into screenings. It is an offence to make any recording of a film. Anyone recording may be arrested and prosecuted, leading to an unlimited fine and imprisonment for up to 10 years.

Any devices found to be recording may be confiscated by the manager for inspection.

On occasion, either the venue or a permitted third party may carry out general filming and sound recording in or around the venue. During such times, notices will be on display informing you of this activity. Unless you notify any of the cinema's staff otherwise, it is assumed you consent to yourself and/or others for whom you have a duty of care (including under 18s and vulnerable adults) being included in and for our use of such photographs and recordings without payment.

Mobile phones

Mobile phones and other devices must be switched off or in silent mode during the screening. Failure to do so may result in being asked to leave the screen.

Health and safety

You must adhere with any health and safety procedures or instructions that are in place or notified to you by our staff or by notices.

No member of the audience will be permitted to block or sit in any gangway which intersects or flanks the seating. You are also not permitted to block or sit on any stairs in the building as these are fire access routes.

Customers must at all times remain within public areas and not obstruct aisles, doorways, stairs or corridors with personal items.

Due to our limited space, we are unable to store bikes, scooters or skateboards on the premises. We have cycle racks outside the cinema for customer's use, however.

For the safety and comfort of all customers and to avoid fire risk, items larger than a small rucksack (i.e. something that cannot comfortably be kept with you in your seat) may not be permitted into the auditorium. If you are unsure, please ask us before your visit, as we have limited space to store personal belongs.

Animals

Guide, hearing or other assistance dogs are welcome but other animals are currently not permitted.

Personal belongings

We accept no responsibility for loss of or damage to personal belongings while on the premises.

As part of Leeds Grand Theatre & Opera House Ltd, we are registered with the Fundraising Regulator and follow their Code of Fundraising Practice.
